Republican Congressman David Dreier has lost touch with the core American values that matter to his constituents – values like freedom, small government and honoring the Constitution. This year, Dreier has spent much of his time defending the indefensible Patriot Act, and its tens of thousands of abuses against the constitutional rights of American citizens.
The American people are not cowards. We don’t need to hide behind the false shield of a Security State with big government, Big Brother surveillance systems set up under the pretense of antiterrorism. Americans who read carefully know that the Patriot Act is used in investigations of alleged terrorist plots only 0.4 percent of the time. 99.6 percent of the time, the Patriot Act’s worst powers are used against people who aren’t suspected of any relationship to terrorism at all.
That’s not what the American people signed up for, but it’s the extremist authoritarian agenda that David Dreier is pushing on us. We need to make the excessive centralization of power inherent in the Patriot Act a thing of the past. We need to make Dreier’s term in office a thing of the past too.
