Former U.S. Senator Russ Feingold has made it very clear that he does not intend to run for President in 2012. So, this blog, originally intended as a site of support for a Feingold 2012 liberal challenge to the increasingly right-leaning presidency of Barack Obama, is changing its focus.
The Democratic Party’s leaders have abandoned liberal ideals in an attempt to gain favor by co-opting aspects of the right wing’s pro-war, pro-corporate, anti-Constitution agenda. So, it’s up to the liberal grassroots to promote what we believe in – liberty, justice, equality, peace, citizenship and an economy that’s strong for all people.
One of the best ways we have to spread the word is through genuine grassroots campaigning – and through liberal campaign gear. Buttons, bumper stickers, tshirts, posters, lawn signs and other items allow us to spread the word of liberal idealism even though we can’t afford to buy commercials on television.
This blog will now examine those pieces of liberal campaign gear that people are using to counter the corporate vision of the USA as nothing more than a nation of consumers.
What better piece to start out with than a bumper sticker designed in opposition to Mitt Romney? Romney is the ultimate corporate candidate. Mitt gained his currency by capitalizing on his powerful father’s resources, thinking all the while that he earned it through his own hard work. Mitt Romney was brought up in a culture of corporate executive elitism, sure of the belief that the wealthy are inherently superior, and entitled to rule the rest of America.
This corporate character is what has enabled Mitt Romney to rise to become a Republican candidate for President in 2012… and they’re exactly what makes Mitt Romney the wrong choice for the USA. That’s what this anti-Romney bumper sticker expresses: Mitt Romney is Wrong for the USA.
Russ Feingold believed that challenging (and defeating) Jimmy Carter in 1980 was the only way for a Democrat to hold the White House. I believe Feingold needs to see the President in a weakened state that the President can’t recover from (Cutting Social Security) if he is going to defeat an incumbent President. So Feingold has decided to wait it out and see what Obama does.
