Be A Proud Tree Hugger.

Environmentalists have done what gay men did a long time ago, and reoccupied what was once used against them as a negative term. Gays took back the term queer through unabashed use of it as a term of pride. Now, environmentalists are doing the same with the phrase tree hugger.
In fact, environmental activists are going even further. A relatively new slogan proclaims, I don’t just hug trees. I kiss them too. Tree hugger and tree kisser - you got a problem with that?
The pro-pollution right wing has spent too much time mocking environmentalists and too little time looking at the genuine environmental problems exist. Here’s a suggestion for another environmentalist slogan, then: I’d rather hug trees than smokestacks.
